32 competitors in 22 boats, ranging from Bic's to an A Class, braved the cooler temperatures and boisterous conditions to blow away the Christmas cobwebs for the annual boxing day race. The privilege of race management fell to Fiona Tylecote and her team who wisely chose to run the race from the race hut using the cruiser start line, setting a great course in front of the club house for spectators to enjoy the screaming reaches and big gusts.  The sun shone which made for a great spectacle with some wicked gusts at marks B and P to keep everyone on their toes.  The winning elves, dressed appropriately for the time of year, were James Leetch and Jess Flint who sailed their 29er masterfully to power round the course and take the honour of race management next boxing day!

Huge congratulations to everyone who sailed in pretty challenging conditions, it was great to see so many people on the water.  Some thank yous are definitely in order  - firstly to Fiona and her team for running the racing, also to the coxswains for keeping us all safe, to Jackie and her team for keeping us fed and watered and finally to Ant at The Rutland Chandlery for donating the excellent prizes.

The overall results were:

1st: James Leetch & Jess Flint - 29er

2nd: Bruce & Andrew Bonar - Flying 15

3rd: Steve & Ben Tylecote - 2000

4th: Val Millward - Challenger

5th: Jamie Tylecote - Open Bic

Have a great new year and see you in 2017!

One of the longest serving members of Sailability, Brian Stewart, aged 93, has been awarded the Legion d’Honneur by the French government.  As a young man he was a Royal Marine Commando who served on the beaches of Normandy during D-day. This honour was presented to him by the Lord Lieutenant, Dr Laurence Howard and the High Sheriff, Dr. Sarah Furness in the Sailing Clubhouse on Thursday 27 October. Our president, Sir Clive Loader, was also in attendance. The ceremony was attended by members of Brian’s family and friends from Sailability.  Photos available below
